Brush Piles

Wildlife Habitat
After 93 acres of the 183-acre forest were selectively harvested in 2009, the wildlife team used the debris to assemble brush piles.  Over 70 brush piles provide cover for small mammals, insects, and amphibians. The team removed non-native invasive mile-a-minute vine from around the brush piles, which are monitored regularly.  Employees have seen an increase in rabbits and have witnessed kestrels and great-horned owl hunting near the brush pile.
